Today my mother has been hospitalized for COVID-19, all for doing her job as a hospital worker serving others. It breaks my heart to see her cry as she’s worried more for the health of my step father, who has respiratory conditions, or my grandfather because of his age.
Even more unfortunate is for her to have to be another statistic paying for the irrespibility and flat-out corruption of my country’s government, and those citizens who are moronic enough to think that “well if they get corona they get corona” as if it’s only then getting sick.
No, her reaction is to feel worried and ashamed, cause she couldn’t avoid getting sick because sadly she had to choose between a job to put food on the table, and her health. The sad reality of so many people who deal with the inneptitude of our half-assed political systems.
Sadly our politics have gone from the ideal of a greater good to becoming a pack of incompetent parasites who can only seem to find excuses at a time when what we need is true leadership and the proactivity that only people of good will can be bold enough to provide.
To all of you who don’t believe in protecting others and wearing a mask, please unfollow me. I don’t need people like you in my life. I need to protect those who I love and your level of oblivious ignorance is far from the values that drive my life and those of us who do serve.
To all the rest of us who do believe in doing our part: those who know me, know I never really ask for anything. In this particular case, your prayers would go a long way. Her case is complicated, and any minute any of you spend praying for her, only adds up. Thank you.
