If someone is beyond the reach of your empathy or compassion, fine, but don’t seek to prevent other people’s empathy or compassion.

Folks aren’t saying Kanye’s antiBlackness, misogyny, etc is mental illness. They’re concerned about his erratic behavior with no intervention.

If you saw the same video I saw of Kanye in that security vest and thought “this is just the behavior of an asshole, so fuck him” I have to respect where you stand.

But I saw an asshole in what seems like crisis. And even assholes deserve someone to intervene.

Most of us are not qualified to say which of Kanye’s moments can be attributed to mental illness. All of us are qualified to recognize when someone seems to be in crisis overall. You can care or not.
