NGL I'm absolutely going to be that mom that will be anti homework. And especially depending on age. I've seen kindergarten kids taking homework home and I would have a fucking fit. But homework in general is bullshit. "Ma'am your daughter didn't do her homework."
"Yeah. And?"
"Well, she has to complete the assignment sent home with her."
"It sounds to me like you need to work on your managerial skills. Why are you assigning more work than can be completed in class? If you cannot schedule properly to give her time to do the work on school time that's
your problem."
"Ma'am, she-"
"What time does school end?"
"I'm sorry?"
"What time does school end."
"Well it ends at 4:05 but-"
"Then that is when she stops doing schoolwork. Have a good evening." *Click.*

I don't give a fuck. School should be about learning, not busy work.
And I'm not subjecting my daughter to that nonsense.
"She'll fail school."

OH NO. THE HORROR. IT'S ALMOST LIKE THERE'S A TEST THAT YOU CAN TAKE TO PROVE YOU HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE SCHOOL IS SUPPOSEED TO TEACH YOU AND MY DAUGHTER'S MENTAL HEALTH AND EXPERIENCES WITH ME ARE MORE IMPORTANT.
Like the fear people have over failing school is exactly part of the problem with school. School shouldn't be pass fail. We should expose kids to new information and new experiences. What they do with that should absolutely be up to them.
We can let kids be kids without robbing them of knowledge. These are not mutually exclusive ideas.
ALSO THE STRESS OF SCHOOLWORK FUCKS KIDS UP AND I AIN'T HAVING THAT.
Honestly I was expecting way more people to get upset about my cavalier attitude toward failing school. I'm pleasantly surprised!

I just know that I fought tooth and nail to graduate my high school on time and STILL got screwed over in the end. (4 days before graduation,
no less!) So I was FORCED by external forces into a situation where I could either come back for a 5th year or get my GED. Ya'll. Fuck that. At the time that I took it, 70% of high school seniors could NOT pass the GED test and yet even so it was seen as somehow a "failure"
compared to a HSD. That's so intensely backwards! HOW?! Anyway fuck that I was not going back to that shit hole school for another semester just to get a piece of paper that society placed some backwards ass importance on.

I was a "gifted" kid, who got a GED. School nearly
destroyed my love of learning. I somehow managed, barely, to hold on to it. But I held on to it in SPITE of school, not because of it. I am DETERMINED to make sure my kid doesn't have to go through the same nonsense.
Mini Thorn is SO curious about the world and she's got such a craving for information. I LOVE facilitating that and helping her learn and grow and explore. I would be devastated to see the education system crush that.
