got an email from our university's development office saying I should have a will and consider giving to NC State, and gee, if that isn't the most ridiculous email I've gotten in this whole COVID thing

this email, soliciting that we add NC State to the wills that we should have, came the same days as the @newsobserver reported our schools are planning for 25% & 50% budget cuts https://www.newsobserver.com/news/coronavirus/article244321897.html

I regularly donate $ and time to my u/g alma mater because I believe in the value of higher education but soliciting will mentions during a pandemic is absurdly cruel

I’d like to instead suggest our dev officers turn to Zoom, Amazon, whoever makes Lysol, Purcell, and plexiglass, and ask for contributions to help students be able to afford school this year. Leave individuals alone for a while.

I know this is a common ask in uni dev offices. We need these kind of donations because many states, including ours, have systematically defunded #highered. As a rhetorical scholar though I'm pointing out their chronos is way off and in comm that matters
