every western fantasy book has like 5000 pages of lore about the kingdoms of ingland and the empire of jermany but then says shit like "and far to the east lays the land of bing bong. they wear funny hats and worship the GOLDEN DRAGON"

i blame fantasy maps always being a zoomed in on fantasy europe, with the 'endless sea' on the west and 'the great desert' on the east so that the author only remembers they need to think up fantasy asia as well at the last second.

this especially annoys me in LOTR, because while i love the story it kind of sucks that the second you get into the not europe part of middle earth its like "yeah these guys love sauron and destroying the west and we never learn anything about them"
