Do I like WFH? No, actually. I have a manageable commute and my home is not set up for two people working, nor do I have the space to make it so - home is the shared office. Work is where work gets done. And I like the separation. 1/
This is why any proposals in academia to go to open plan offices make me want to howl: people are distracting. No matter what they& #39;re doing or how quietly they& #39;re doing it. I want to be able to see them when I need to; not have to see them when I& #39;m trying not to. 2/
My partner works while listening to podcasts or with background TV on. Drives me nuts. But she shouldn& #39;t have to put on headphones all day when our lives are premised on me working at the office. Nor should I! (And she& #39;s still distracting, as more fun than work.) 3/
I& #39;m glad so many of you have discovered the magic of email and working in track suit bottoms in the last few months, but how about we don& #39;t just burn all office space to the ground just yet, some of us like it a lot and are way more productive there. 4/4
(Before anyone asks, but isn& #39;t WFH already what I do on research days or when on research leave?

NOPE. If I& #39;m staying at home on a Thursday is because I& #39;ve run overtime the rest of the week and am taking some "me" time, not with work. Give me back my office!)
(Uhhhh, to clarify, as my HoS follows me: I mean I& #39;ll check and answer email and do rote admin stuff, but if I intend to have Great Publishable Thoughts or am prepping a lecture, I& #39;ll be at my desk, lads.)
