I’m going to push on this: both these things are/ can be true.

The low pay relative to education and experience in academe makes it an inaccessible career for many caring/ $ for multiple generations.

Moreover, within this, women make less.

This let capitalism off the hook by making a systemic problem one *more* about individuals.

We should be asking why *everyone* in academe doesn’t make more instead of saying “be happy” with what you got. Living wages should exist all around.

Also, many TT fac don’t make 70k.
I read someone that the average entry TT salary in Humanities & Education = high 50s/ low 60s.

Of those who do make 70k and complaining about it, have we nuanced COL?

70k in Minneapolis Vs. Atlanta Vs. LA vs. Madison = very, very different. Also, Canada is a diff. World!
Somewhere* whatever. I’m half asleep. These are my sleeping hours 😴 💤.
This is a really great point that underscores/ illustrates my main idea: https://twitter.com/MauricePogue83/status/1285181852190486529?s=20
Moreover, as is expressed here:

This general “just be happy you’re TT” line of thinking allows for a capitalist neutral understanding of academe. It allows for a dismissal of the lives realities of TT faculty —> many are underpaid here too.

I have typos and I’ve made my point (as have other kind folks) so I’m going back to bedt.
