Landslide-adjacent thread: After recommendations for ways to keep a skilled person in Tromsø. I have an ERC friend/ex-colleague from outside of Europe who specializes in bedrock geology, with (more recently) a geohazards relevance. (1/7)
Since postdoc she has returned to Tromsø. She is facing deportation from Norway because although she has permanent residence, it will be stripped without proof of employment in several months time. (2/7)
Her partner and partner's kid live in Tromsø, so for the time being she is seeking jobs in the north.
She is interested in anything to do with hard rock, and has applied for over 30 (!) jobs. Several she has been to the final round in, which excellent feedback, but (3/7)
alas it is not a good time to be looking, esp as a non-Norwegian. She is ridiculously skilled, highly motivated, fluent in Norwegian, smart, efficient, charismatic and bloody dogged! She should not be lost to the bureaucracy of this country!! (4/7)
We have submitted a young research talent application to the recent NFR round, but will not receive results until December- after the date of her deportation. The application showcases a really cool idea coupling her geology skills with landslide analysis (5/7)
(she could probably write a review paper on what she knows about rock slope failure now). But the main priority is to keep her in the country and in the north. She is adaptable to e.g. engineering geology, geophysics, lab work, admin... (6/7)
Looking for anything vaguely relevant, permanent or short term, suggestions, calls, job apps, recommendations. Would love some advice Twitter! Thread closed. (7/7)
