Soul in Hebrew is nephesh a word with a lot of meanings, one meaning is ‘breath of life’ like Genesis 2:7 and Genesis 35:18, the spirit was breathed in and life was formed the ‘soul’

Now if the soul is essentially the point of life, if it is tied with anything else but God the source (the giver of life) as Jesus refers to many a times, then surely that person is essentially dead. As we see in Luke 12:20

So a soul tie can’t be real, because the source is God, if the source stops being God then the life doesn’t exist and no one else can give you ‘life’ so your soul can’t essentially be tied to anything else.
