When Scotland's children return to school in August please think seriously about idea of a soft start. Part time, outdoor and play based. Not just because of COVID, but because of good pedagogy, good transitions, rebuilding relationships and adults' and children's wellbeing /1
We want kids back full time, I want my 7YO back. But its 6 months since were last in the classroom, in school routine. They likely won't know their teacher/ class; their teacher won't know them. In small groups & with informal learning spaces, relationships can be (re)built /2
It'll take time to assess progress; hear stories of experiences. All children will have moved on, but as competent as a child's home-schooling was, there'll be gaps. Having conversations will be important. Teaching is relationships, please make time for them /3
