Monday morning observations. CPS: If defence are chasing for missing items, trust me, they are missing. We really do not have the resources to chase for no reason and we don't get paid to chase as fixed fee.
Judiciary: If it was as simple as making a phone call to CPS to resolve issues, we would. Even a 6 mins call to chase items in each case x50 files is 5 hours work. I would respectfully ask for some perspective when passing open criticism in court. We are doing our best.
1/ BCM procedure: It's all very well chasing defence for stage 2 compliance but when there's not even a trial date in place, it's disproportionate to put relentless pressure on solicitors to be working 18 hr days to juggle the increasing bottle neck of "live" cases when trials
2/ Will be over 6 months away. Burning us out using a procedure not designed to cope with a global pandemic, skeleton staff and no income, is not helping the bigger picture. Time for a review of BCM procedure for bail cases? If only on a temporary basis?
Even the most workaholic among us without childcare responsibilities are getting tired and starting to flag. No cash to employ help. The system is setting us up to fail and motivation to continue is starting to flag.
