The claim is loose carrots with tops are far more sustainable than packaged.

But then why do supermarkets bother ?

Because it dramatically ups shelf life, slashing waste.

Food waste is one of the greatest threats facing our planet.
For context:

If food waste were a country it would lag behind only the US & China in terms of its carbon emissions. 🇨🇳🇺🇸

It would cover 1.6B hectares of land, some 28% of the world's entire farmland. 🌎

It could feed a population of ~1Billion people. 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👨‍👨‍👧👩‍👦‍👦
So, if you are going to spend time, money and resources trying to persuade both supermarkets and consumers to make more ecological choices, it would make more sense to campaign for sustainable, reusable or recyclable packaging than to ditch it.

But that's harder to explain.
