Negotiation mindset tip: Let’s say you and I work on a project and split all work 50/50. When it sells, the money goes in my bank account & I only pay you 10% of it, I keep 90%. But I tell you, life’s about more than money, right? And 10% is enough for you to live on comfortably
It’d still feel wrong, wouldn’t it? And I bet it would affect our relationship too, and both our personalities, and the way I treat you.

Sometimes negotiation is less about what you need and money, and more about respect and relationships and fairness.
Many employer-employee negotiation scenarios are truly not that far removed from the above situation. Maybe this mindset helps you stay strong and grounded while going for more money, or makes you consider asking for more if you previously felt guilty or weird about that.
The deep irony in the “life’s about more than money” argument is that negotiation is also about a lot more than money
And also if we take that to mean the oppressor doesn’t value money why did they keep 90%. Truly too much to unpack in tweets
