What Iwazumi Really Does As An Athletic Trainer | a thread
So I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how, as an athletic trainer, Iwazumi trainer the Japan volleyball team to take on Oikawa and Argentina, and as fun of a headcanon that is, it’s NOT what an athletic trainer does.

I studied as an AT (athletic trainer) for a while before switching to physical therapy, and it’s important to note that an AT is NOT a personal trainer or coach. Those are the ones who run practice, work with strength and conditioning, and generally develop athletes for success.
Athletic trainers, on the other hand, work primarily with injuries and prevention. You’ll see them with the athletes who get hurt, who are working on preventing new injuries or reinjury, and treating/evaluating/rehabbing those who are hurt.
ATs are health care professionals, working within the medical field SPECIFICALLY within the field of sports medicine! They work with athletes and coaches to deliver quality patient care. They get licensed just like any other provider too.
ATs are the pens giving you exercises to get stronger after a shoulder injury to help you spike at your peak strength, the ones who tape your ankle after a sprain for extra support, who give you ice for sore joints or ultrasound for soft tissue injuries. They rehab and treat.
So you’re not gonna get an Iwazumi who coaches and trains the Japanese team, but you WILL get an Iwazumi who takes care of his athletes and gives them the care they need to take on Oikawa, which honestly, is still pretty great if you ask me.

Some things Iwazumi will be doing with these athletes: diagnose/treat injuries, provide first aid and emergency care at the games/practices, develop interventions and plans for rehab to get them back to peak performance, and craft plans for injury prevention.
So everyone here is like, “Iwazumi: Pokémon Trainer” but it’s actually “Iwazumi: Nurse Joy”
