You feel like twitter is messing with you lately?
We all do.
Here’s some discoveries I’ve made that might help you.
[THREAD]

The twitter algorithm is acting weird lately.
And that affected all of us.
No exceptions.
It all started this week, Monday probably.
And everyone (including me, freaked out).

And everyone (including me, freaked out).
Some people just let it slide and forgot eventually.
I’m sorry but I couldn’t.
I had to figure out what the hell happened.
So, I started experimenting with my own account.
Here’s what I discovered

Here’s what I discovered
- New ranking system.
Twitter is ranking tweets based on how fast they ignite.
Instead of how much engagement they get throughout the day (As it used to be)
What does this mean?
It means that it doesn’t matter how good is your tweet or how many followers you have.

If your tweet doesn’t get much engagement as soon as it’s posted.
It won’t appear in people’s timelines.
Here’s how I proved this one:

Here’s how I proved this one:
I sent this tweet below to one of my engagement groups right after posting it. https://twitter.com/LearnWithLuis/status/1284220141195137025?s=20
Now, if you look at the comments.
You will see some of them are right after I tweeted it.
But some people commented 7 HOURS LATER (And most of them don’t follow me)
Which means it appeared in their recommendations or "In case you missed it" section.

Here's the thing.
What you want to do is to tweet a good "match"
Make it ignite fast.
And watch it turn into a big log that burns for hours.

And watch it turn into a big log that burns for hours.
Here’s how you do it:
1) Use your engagement groups wisely.
Send your tweets as soon as they’re posted.
Of course, this requires teamwork from the other accounts involved.
But that’s no problemo on this side of twitter.

2) Timing: Use followerwonk to see when most of your followers are active.
Schedule your tweets 5-10 minutes before there’s a peak in the graph.
That way you ensure more exposure.

3) Quality over quantity: If the algorithm determines not even your followers want to interact with your tweets.
It won’t show it to other accounts that don’t follow you.
And it won't appear in the ICYMI section.
So, it’s time to pull out the best tweets from the top hat

A couple of days ago I tweeted this when I started experimenting. https://twitter.com/LearnWithLuis/status/1283568280490463233?s=20
Now I will expand it
The new ranking model seems to give more importance to the tweets from people you’ve interacted with lately.
I tried this one with the same tweet. https://twitter.com/LearnWithLuis/status/1284220141195137025?s=20

How?
I answered only the first two responses.
And waited a few hours to answer the other ones.
Guess who’s tweets I saw later in the day?
Exactly, the ones from the people I answered to.
Why? Since twitter is trying to show you the best content.

Why? Since twitter is trying to show you the best content.
It assumes it’s the content from the accounts you’re interacting with more often.
How do you tackle that?
Engagement + good timing.
Make 10-15 minutes engagement sprees.
Comment on the tweets from bigger accounts that follow you back.
Drop the tweet after that.

That way, your tweet will be ranked better.
And you’ll maximize the chance of your tweet appearing on their timeline.
