To make a positive out of a negative from the last few months of craziness here’s a few thoughts of what I learnt during our Tokyo “lockdown”, WFH & since.

While my family and I are COVID-19 free, it’s changed life for me.

How about everyone else?
What’s changed for you?
• realised how much money I can save. Understanding that just cause I’ve got the cash in wallet doesn’t mean I need to spend it.
• time at home to reset the stresses of life.
• back to basics, enjoying my time without over scheduling
• talking more with my wife
• talking more with friends and family
• no eating out and even more cooking at home.
• eating less, but healthier
• all coffee ☕️ made by me, saved ¥¥
• increased exercise with indoor trainer.
• more regular hours, and sleep. Bed early up early feels so much healthier.
• caught up on creative projects, made some videos.
• read books 📚 grew knowledge
• finished watching 1/2 finished TV series. See, Jack Ryan, Peaky Blinders.
• finished PS4 games.
• Marie Kondo’ed my apartment, reorganised everything. Found stuff I’d forgotten about.
But most of all I reflected on what was most important to me.

For me I realised how important family is. My father in law passed away, and because of covid we couldn’t enjoy close time over the last months of his life. Now torn between my family in 🇦🇺 & wifes family in 🇯🇵
So like many people I’ve made some big life adjustments and realigned my lifestyle, priorities to my values rather than ploughing forward at full speed.

The last few months were terrible, but now I realise just what a gift they were allowing me to make some changes.
Looking ahead I’m now trying to figure out what is next, how to not lose momentum from this life change opportunity.

Also trying to figure out if living in Australia to be near my family, or to stay here in Japan near wife’s family. Expat’s dilemma.
At the same time i want to explore more of Japan, sometimes feel I’ve not seen or done enough.

If I moved I feel there’d be regrets. I’ve explored and enjoyed more of Tokyo than almost all of my friends and families, but still feels there’s so much more to see.
Oh and I’ve started to enjoy power naps 😴

I used to force myself to stay awake even if really tired as I thought it was a waste to sleep during the day. 20-30mins and I wake up super charged.
