why dua lipa is not a neo-nazi and isn’t promoting a facist idea, a much needed thread since stan twitter loves trending hashtags without any factual evidence
disclaimer: i’m albanian, i live in kosovo and i know pretty fucking lot about this so before you come at me check yourself: if you’re from the west, sit back and do research, and if you’re serbian/from balkans and disagree, make sure ur arguments aren’t based on propaganda
a couple of hours ago, dua lipa posted a picture of this flag with the autochthonous definition, referring to the albanian ethnic group which she belongs to. the map shown on the flag represents the ethnic borders of albania
if you don’t know, ethnic borders mean including the entire land where a certain group lives in one country. today’s borders of albania don’t include all it’s rightful land because of the london conference in 1912/13, where the six great powers of the time decided-
-they had the right to split the land the ottoman empire had occupied between the people living in balkans. keep in mind albania had just declared its independence and they just gave its land away like it was nothing
in red you can see ethnic albania, and in white are the borders of today’s albania, kosovo (which is now also independent after being a province in yugoslavia and had a genocide thrown at in 1999 but that’s a different story), and other parts which belong to other countries.
anyone who posts the map knows the chances of us getting it back are slim to none (most likely the latter) but still you can’t blame an indigenous person reminiscing over their original soil, it’s not promoting a facist idea, it’s simply bringing awareness to the wrongings-
-albanians have been put through for pretty much our entire existence. +calling it a ‘facist’ idea when its albanias themselves who have been killed, starved, deprived of education and cleansed in yugoslavia is painting the oppressed as the oppressor which is problematic within-
-itself.
now back to the flag (and settle in because this is a ride). back in 2014 the serbian and albanian teams had a football match. it happened in october 14th IN serbia. the albanian team had been subject to a lot of hate from the serbian side where they had objects thrown at them-
-in the field, and a lot of harmful words yelled at. on the middle of the game, an albanian guy flew his drone in the stadium and had this flag attached to it to show support to his fellow albanian teammates
the people in the flag are ismail qemaili and isa boletini, known albanian figures who fought for our rights back in early 20th century. in fact, ismail qemaili was the one to declare our independence (backed by isa boletini and others)
stefan mitrović decided it was a good idea to try and rip the flag, but the albanian players stopped him and protected it. the game was cut short and on their way to the dressing rooms, the albanian players had chairs and whatnot thrown at them.
before the match began serbian fans screams ‘kill the albanians’ and started whistling during the albanian anthem, making it impossible to hear. they flew a greek flag (referencing the murder toward southern albanians done by greeks)
even after all this, serbians (including their prime minister) claimed it was us who provoked them politically and accused the albanian prime minister’s brother of orchestrating the whole thing.
quite a few other incidents happened to other albanians in serbia and montenegro like theirs shops being burned down, but i’m not gonna get into all that.
honorable mention would be that in the following year, when serbians came to albania for another soccer match, we did everything to make sure they didn’t have the discomfort our team experienced with them.
there’s a million other things i could say when it comes to this topic but this is where i’m gonna wrap it up. i don’t like being serious on this account but when it comes to albania and its people being vilified i take it very personally as we don’t have much coverage and-
-representation internationally and most people only see us as criminals and drug dealers. leave dua lipa alone as she didn’t do anything wrong and for gods sake educate urself before trying to cancel anyone because ur embarrassing urselves. faleminderit and good night.
