So finally a statement, but it’s full of crap, and here’s why:

1- Nick Barrucci is lying about not knowing working with a CG person would be so polarising. The last time a CG variant cover happened it caused a huge uproar and they would have been inundated with the reasons why https://twitter.com/dynamitecomics/status/1284949046889775112
1 (cont.)- so this idea that he didn’t know is bullshit. It’s happened before. If you put your hand in the fire once and get burned, you don’t forget and try it again

2- This suggests that Barrucci, or no one at Dynamite, was aware of what Comicsgate is or how people would react
2 (cont.)- aside from the idea that this is a tacit admission that you don’t know or understand a very well known problem in the industry you work in, freelancers and staff of Dynamite have been/are currently targeted by CG. This means Nick is either inept, ignorant or
2 (cont.)- much more likely, lying and he didn’t care.

3. The cover was not even the major problem, it was Dynamite using their social media platform to boost awareness and share the link to a Comicsgate Indiegogo campaign as if it was a) a worthwhile project and
3 (cont.) - b) on a level with the comics they themselves are publishing.

That was the real issue, and in the passed 24 hours, the platform has tweeted out links to (at least) a further two Comicsgate projects.
This statement is damage control, but also not very good or effective damage control. It suggests that just dropping this one cover collaboration is enough, and it absolutely is not. It’s not even the tip of the iceberg.
It’s the same kind of damage control SGM likes to run every time he decides to signal boost known transphobe, homophobe and overall bigot Doug TenNapel.

It didn’t work for him, it definitely doesn’t work for Barrucci or Dynamite.
So please don’t be taken in by this fellow comic creators, especially those of you who are not the usual targets for CG (ie white cis straight men): this is a dishonest, shallow attempt at pushing the issue under the rug, again, until he does it again in a few months
Adding to this thread, to again illustrate that this statement completely misses the point.

I just went on Dynamite’s twitter and they are still platforming CG projects. They appear to have taken down the one projects tweet connected to the major issue, but they have this one
With evidence there from Thibert’s own feed to confirm that he is allied with the Comicsgate hate movement.

So Dynamite are still happy to platform crowdfunding campaigns by CG. Note, it is ONLY CG independent campaigns they highlight and provide the benefit of their platform
They also have numerous tweets highlighting an artist running a Vampirella variant cover campaign who just four days ago tweeted a thread of tweets blaming the survivors of sexual assault in the comics industry for their assaults.
So Nick Barrucci’s statement is worthless. Dynamite are still a platform for CG creators and projects, even if they are now also getting heaps of abuse from CG for “bending the knee” to those angry at their platforming of a hate group
And as a reminder: this is the kind of tweet I get from CG, which not only used thinly veiled threats against me but also a non-binary and trans creator who have nothing to do with me or my work - they just wanted to threaten them too
