So @WorldRugby better publicize and allow scrutiny on the findings lined out here because it reads as just another policy that treats trans women as these monsters athletically based on “biological sex” and risks alienating them in society due to a “20-30% higher risk of injury” https://twitter.com/guardian_sport/status/1284956883682459661
I mean yeah of course groups that are fighting for the basic human rights and dignity of trans people are not going to like policies that continue to segregate trans people from the rest or society based on opaque science!
This is just insulting on so many levels to trans people and it’s a political decision and I’m sure on some levels it’s because sport isn’t about fairness or competition it’s about ensuring barriers to make the product they present more lucrative.
Again, the notion that all trans women have a statistical “significant” advantage is just wild because trans people can’t get medical treatment without major barriers so of course sports bodies have all this fully vetted research that understands the full trans experience! (Nope)
This is a political choice. Full stop. It’s a political choice that isn’t controversial with people in sport, which people who fight for human rights (which sport alleges to do) are upset with! But they don’t make the rules. And these “papers” just remind that.
Highlighting this is the point I totally forgot to bring up: World Rugby would be fine with putting trans women in competition with cis men, which would certainly hurt trans women. How is any of this anything but transphobia?
