If I was the current Doctor Who show-running team and looking at the prospect of struggling to film any time soon with social distancing restrictions, I’d be talking to animation houses and BBC Radio 4
A one-off animated special for summer/autumn 2021 like Dreamland or The Infinite Quest? A series of five inter-linked radio dramas featuring Jodie Whittaker and Sacha Dhawan?
Mind you I must have mentioned 1,000 times that if I was writing Doctor Who for the telly one of my big ideas is that they somehow get trapped in an animation for half-an-episode that also has old Doctor/companion teams trapped in it via voice cameos
My other “big idea” is Doctor & crew get stuck in 30s England having adventures for three consecutive episodes because the Nazis have got hold of the TARDIS, and the Doctor ultimately has to prioritise getting her back over averting the war
Then later the same season they end up in the same place in the 1950s and have to face what the consequences of the war have been for everyone they met in the 1930s. I don’t think the show would be very cheery under my watch.
Mind you I’d also quite like to do a Doctor Who pastiche of a certain ABBA-based jukebox musical so you never know...
Anyway thank you for listening to my pitch to be a showrunner for a flagship BBC franchise off the back of zero TV writing or production experience whatsoever. I’ll let you know when they get in touch
