and again im saying this as someone who really loves some of japan's cultural exports. idk, it's possible to like and want to engage with some aspects of japanese popular culture while also being aware that, historically speaking, japan engaged in some pretty fucked shit...

...and that the japanese government, to this day, continues to deny/downplay potentially 12 million deaths as a result of japanese imperialism. like that's just obviously bad and you can say that that's bad and that doesn't mean you have to stop liking neon genesis evangelion.
