The thing about Fauci is that he simply has no interest in politics so he doesn't consider how his statements will be used and twisted to push political narratives. The problem is that politicization has consequences and impacts credibility.
Today was a perfect example. Seems apparent that what he was trying to say was that when there is an increase in virus spread, we need to react and take counter measures. That's what NY did when their outbreak got out of control.
The problem is that it automatically was taken as a political fight. People on the left seized on his comments to suggest that he was backing up the idea that NY did everything right. People on the right reacted to that with outrage because it's clear a false narrative.
In an ideal world, people wouldn't try to use every sentence from him as a way to score political points, but we don't live in that world. For credibility reasons he should be more careful what he says & how he says it, but I expect the politicization to continue anyways.
