Just remembering when David Bowie came round to stay at my nan’s for Christmas. For sure I was very nervous meeting him, but he was so normal and down to earth which made me feel at ease.
Couple of people doubting this. Prepare to be embarrassed. Here he is playing me on the Atari the following Christmas.
And for any lingering doubters, this is Christmas 1979. In fairness, Dave took this one, so he isn’t in it.
“Elbows off the table, Dave!” my nan used to shout, and we’d all laugh like drains. Great days.
“How was your dinner, Dave?” nan would always ask. “Hunky dory!” Dave would reply. And we would laugh and laugh.
Then there was the year he turned up in his brand new Hillman Hunter. He was so proud of that car. “Life on Mars? Life in cars, more like!” he’d say, and we’d all roar laughing.
Every summer we’d go to Butlins and my nan would say, ‘I bet David wants to go to the sundae bar.’ and David would reply ‘Take me there and I’ll love you til Tuesday!’ and we’d all laugh our heads off.
