Strange state of affairs in our disciplined society!

Why is the law not strictly enforced against those who unlawfully destroy important historical / archeological sites?

This is just one example of the state of health of our democracy...

The recent months have many such examples:

1. Terrorist who admits to murder of Sri Lanka Army personnel not arrested. *Happens to be close associate of govt.
2. So-called 'curfew' or 'social distancing' 'rules' not enforced for funeral of former Minister.
*deceased Minister was a close associate of govt.
5. Many of those engaging in #HateSpeech (including hate speech on some television channels) are not investigated / prosecuted, but those sharing moderate views ( #FreeSpeech) are arrested. https://mobile.twitter.com/amnesty/status/1283420530062897154
6. The law grants power to the Police to maintain law and order. However, military led Presidential Task Forces are established entirely outside the legal framework "to build a secure country, disciplined, virtuous and lawful society".

There is no Rule of Law, if the law is selectively applied, or misapplied... Or where those who govern act outside the legal framework.
These are but a few examples of the absence of the Rule of Law, and the deterioration of democracy, in the recent past

The SLPP says it wants a 2/3 majority to dismantle the 19th Amendment, which was passed by a minority UNP govt in an UPFA majority parliament. In other words...
...UPFA supported the 19A. Only 1 MP voted against it.

So what SLPP is really saying is that checks & balances (established by 19A) are nice when they are in opposition. If they are in govt they would rather govern without accountability /checks & balances.
Protecting democracy is, and must be, a priority in and of itself.

Coupled with present govt's lack of a farsighted economic policy, the absence of a democratic culture will also deter foreign investment, and risk SL losing trade concessions like GSP+ https://bit.ly/3fGYBKz
