Doom Dada by BIGBANG& #39;s TOP is a rap masterpiece - A Thread
First and foremost, I AM BLACK, and I am a rap fan. I also have an expensive ass degree from a private arts school where learning art criticism is required in every major. So I know what I& #39;m talking about.
Let& #39;s get into the song: first I must say out the gate that the reason why TOP is better than 99.9% of kpop idol rappers is because he has mastered flow. A lot of idol rappers stumble their way through rap verses. TOP knows how to ride a beat comfortably.
In Doom Dada in particular, he flexes at least three different flow styles over the course of this song. If this doesn& #39;t sound impressive to you, I can tell you right now that most mainstream rappers are good at one style of flow and it serves them their whole career.
So for TOP to do three in a song, and do them well, he& #39;s already murdering your fav kpop boy who raps. Moving on from his flow, lets get into the actual rhymes/lyrics of the song.
Clever word play is bare minimum when it comes to being a rapper, so of course he has it. But I just want to highlight his clever use of onomatopoeia in this line 뜨끈뜨끈할 때 후후불어 함께 옛다 / which is a clever reference to blowing on food when it& #39;s hot, and linked to
the previous line about being a sommelier, who often go through steps to make sure that they are truly tasting wine in its best form. What does all this add up to? Literally a clever way of saying get ready for me to deliver you a bop.
All rappers flex, but TOP only spends a few bars flexing and to call yourself a 21st century rap Basquiat is a flex that is so fresh to hear other than focusing on how rich/wealthy one is.
Finally let& #39;s talk about that verse where TOP gives his third flow style (there& #39;s arguably more but im hungover and this thread is getting ridiculous) and aims his rap gun at his biggest enemy: the media.
TOP uses the repetition of the word 돌아 (turn) to build on the dizzy production of the song, and it also serves as a metaphor for the way that the media when it comes to BIGBANG often writes themselves into circles making something out of nothing.
He highlights that it& #39;s all talk by the end of the verse, and that soon thanks to his rapping will deliver him and us to a world where nothing they say matters. A flex, if you will, that no matter what they slam him for, he& #39;s good as long as he can rap.
In conclusion, BIGBANG& #39;s TOP is my favorite kpop rapper and he& #39;s better than all of them. Argue with your mother.
