It’s weird to see people defending Nick Cannon with lines like “Trump is Racist.” Remember Unite the Right? They hate Blacks and Jews. Our struggles are interconnected.
No doubt anti-blackness is far more acceptable than anti-Semitism, but that doesn’t mean one excuses the other. I will never know the struggles that my black family members deal with.
I’ve never been followed in the store, feared for my life during a traffic stop, subjected to a lifetime of micro-aggressions. And still, for the first time in my life anti-semitism feels tangible and close at hand.
I think about the world I want to build for my child who will be black and Jewish, one that acknowledges their intersectional identity.
I know that Jewish communities have a lot of work to do to be more inclusive and safe for POC. That being said, I hope we can come out of this experience a little wiser and united against the white supremacy that wishes to erase Black and Jewish communities.
