Walls having the perfect balance between raw emotion whilst also ending on a hopeful note; a thread💫
disclaimer-these are my interpretations of how louis portrays a good balance in his songs. He acknowledges the negative aspects of things but always ends on a hopeful note which is refreshing and not alot of lyricists can do this well. I didnt include 2 of us.
Kill my mind💫
"The devil in my brain whispering my name"
VS
"raise my body back to life"
The person is an almost unhealthy addiction to him, and is always there, not letting him go but also he doesnt want to let go
VS
However, they make him feel alive, so he is willing to handle the negatives in order to receive the positives of their relationship
Dlibyh💫
"Life gets hard and its gets messed up, when u give so much but it's not enough"
VS
"Whatever tears you apart, dont let it break ur heart"
He shows how there will always be barriers and struggles in ur life, and how sometimes u dont feel enough
VS
Gives hope that we can all overcomes these barriers as there is always a way forward for everyone. You arent alone and the negatives will pass.
We made it💫
"Dont know why they put all this on us when we're so young"
VS
"Now we're saying goodbye, waving to the hard times"
Louis talks about the pressure that he experienced and that he had to live up to others expectations of him, probably as well as dealing with his own personal problems.
VS
finally letting go of that pressure, giving a sense freedom, only having to live up to his own expectations
Too young💫
"I cant believe I gave into the pressure, when they said a love like this would never last"
VS
"Now we can finally have a conversation, that I wish we could have had before"
He blames himself for and regrets giving into what others told him to do regarding the relationship
VS
Overcoming this struggle with the other person, beginning to work stuff out with some communication that was probably lacking before
Walls💫
"Nothing wakes u up like waking up alone, and all that's left of us is a cupboard full of clothes"
VS
"These high walls never broke my soul"
Maybe a reference to a break up, and both people have lost themselves within it, everything they had is reduced to some clothes and it seems like there is nothing left
VS
He overcomes the pain from the breakup by finding himself again, away from the relationship, hes not broken
Habit💫
"I always said that I'd mess up eventually, I told u that so what did u expect from me?"
VS
"I took some time cos i ran out of energy, playing someone i heard I'm supposed to be, but honestly, I dont have to choose anymore"
Seems as though there are low expectations placed on him by both himself and others, he doesnt give himself enough credit or praise for who he really is.
VS
The progress of him showing others who he really is, not what they have been told to believe about him. The real Louis.
Always you💫
"I went to Tokyo to let it go, drink after drink but I still felt alone"
VS
"It was always you"
He regrets letting go what he had before and feels guilty. When he realises, he feels lost and alone and tries to forget
VS
It is hopeful, he has now recognised that it was always that person and so there is a chance he can get that back now
Fearless💫
"Then u should feel better than ever, but u know as well as I, it's all lies"
VS
"Strong enough to get it wrong"/"mum I did it"
Money does not equal happiness and alot of what the media portrays is not as it seems. Some ppl dont see through the lies but he is saying that u that u should
VS
No longer hard on himself, it's okay to get stuff wrong. Also, he made it.
Perfect now💫
"U say to me, ur jeans' dont fit, u dont feel pretty and it's hard to miss"
VS
"Keep ur head up love, dont hide away, dont ever change"
He references someones insecurities, whether that be about himself or someone else, and not feeling good enough
VS
Telling the person to not change themselves, they are perfect the way they are and are worthy, hope for newfound confidence
Defenceless💫
"We're sleeping on our problems like we'll solve them in our dreams"
VS
"U dont have to keep on being strong for me and you"
References possible communication problems in a relationship, just hoping that the problem will go away without acc addressing it
VS
progresses by acc addressing one of the problems, as he acknowledges that the partner is trying to hold it together, but they dont have to anymore
Only the brave💫
"I'm breaking my own rules, I'm crying like a fool"
VS
"Its a solo song and it's only for the brave"
He is changing as he no longer obeys these "rules" that either himself/society placed on him, these changes are different and so concern him
VS
Realises these changes are postive and needed. He takes control of them, solo, he now knows how brave he really is
