All right. I’ve fucking had it with accusations that designers only use “expensive” yarn in patterns. It’s not expensive, it’s just what it looks like when you pay the makers a living fucking wage.
You want cheap yarn? Ok. Vote for universal healthcare. Vote for tax breaks for people with less income. Vote for increased taxes on billionaires. The designers and the yarn companies aren’t charging more because they want to get rich, they are trying to make a damn living wage.
Stop pitting the people wanting to buy yarn against the people making it. We’re in the same damn boat. Look at the bigger fucking picture.
People mistake inconvenience to them for oppression, when in fact it’s a pretty effective set of smoke and mirrors hiding the larger issues at play here.
Should everyone be able to knit, and be able to afford the resources to do so? Absolutely. Should people be able to make a living wage making yarn and patterns? Absolutely. The two are not mutually exclusive, and neither. should. come. at. the. cost. of. the. other.
So let’s realize where the bigger issue is, and put our energies there. For fuck’s sake.
