Indians must avoid buying #MGHectorPlus. In fact, the Indian Govt., must ban #MGHectorPlus, just like they banned @TikTok_IN. (1/n)
The parent company, Morris Garages, is promoted as a British Automobile Company, and traces back its genesis to 1924. But that's an insignificant part of a half truth, which many unsuspecting owners of MG cars fall prey to. (2/n)
Morris Garages is fully owned by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, a Chinese state automobile owned company. (3/n)
The Shangai Automotive Industry Corporation, or SAIC, SAIC traces its origins to the early years of the Chinese automobile industry in the 1940s, and SAIC was one of the few carmakers in Mao's China. (4/n)
#MGHectorPlus is called an internet car, with its own SIM and internet enabled system. The system is cutting-edge & allows the owners to control the car using their mobile phone. It has its own AI and voice recognition system. (5/n)
But what such a system also does is, capture and probably use so much of data that it captures - like where the car travels, what the passengers speak, where they stop, how long they stop, where they stay, whom they visit, etc., etc. (6/n)
Tik-Tok users, often belong to several economic stratas of the society. #MGHectorPlus users belong only to the upper economic echelons of the society, and capturing of their data by a Chinese Govt. owned company is dangerous. (7/n)
Why should only e-commerce companies be forced to reveal the country of origin of the products sold on their platform? Consumers of every product, such as #MGHectorPlus, must be informed about the country of ownership of the products they consume. (8/n)
This is more so, if a company's ownership lies in the hands of a foreign government such, more so if it is a government such as China that is opposed to India's interests. (9/n)
Buying #MGHectorPlus is like buying a car manufactured by a company owned by the Pakistani Military, that funnels the profits to carry out cross border attacks. (10/n)
Allowing #MGHectorPlus to manufacture and sell in India, buying #MGHectorPlus over other cars are both acts of national betrayal. (11/n)
We Indians can do very little to control China's unaccountable & unchecked aggression in Galwan, South China Sea, HK & everywhere else. But the least we can do is, to stay alert, informed, sensible & not fund China's actions against our national interests. (12/n)
Boycotting Chinese products to the extent possible, building indigenous capabilities, & hurting China economically, is not xenophobia, jingoism or nationalism. It's just a sensible thing to do. It's also what China expects & wants us not to do. (13/n)
As on date, Indians may not be able to boycott several Chinese products. But we need to start becoming conscious consumers, & not remain compulsive consumers. Out of the many Chinese owned companies whose products we must avoid, #MGHectorPlus tops the list. (14/n)
The Chinese Govt. would laugh at a nation that mourns the death of the soldiers they killed, but buys the car they manufacture. #MGHectorPlus is owned by Chinese Govt., and must be boycotted. (n/n)
