Historical note: This isn't the first time that some folks have argued it would be better to just let a fascist win an election, so that a shitty system would come undone more quickly. It's a theory that hasn't worked out super well in the past.
I really wish folks would engage more with history instead of just getting mad at folks who have.
This week, some of y'all turned on me bc I said (from a pretty informed and educated place) that I don't think I'd survive four more years of Trump w out winding up in a cage. Some folks got mad bc that doesn't fit into in the "it's all the same" narrative.
Yrs of study & education work, yrs of death threats covering state violence, a life of unpaid organizing, & when I trouble the ahistorical claim that there's no distinction whatsoever between the horrors of neoliberalism and the horrors of fascism, some of y'all get shitty.
That's not the radical posture that you think it is.
And what's really funny is to experience this argument from a place of fear. I was building barricades before a lot of you ever thought of politics (and will be long after some of you lose interest), but I'm not rad enough and my fear for my life and freedom is irrelevant to you.
Who does that make you in all of this? Because if you think it makes you a revolutionary, as an experienced organizer and a student of history, I have some unfortunate news.
Some of you are better than how you've acted around this, so pls just be who I know you really are. We need each other right now. You don't have to think or do anything you don't want to think or do, but you do need to watch what you say and keep it helpful, true af and strategic
Hitting me w litanies of Obama's crimes isn't the counterpoint some of y'all seem to think it is. Unlike many of you, I was in the streets protesting relentlessly under Obama, and unlike most of you, I will also be actively organizing against the policies of whoever wins this one
And, as organizers (if that's a thing you do or aspire to do) I would ask you to really consider how what you're saying sounds to ppl who are inarguably more fucked, in pretty immediate ways, if Trump wins. https://twitter.com/MsKellyMHayes/status/1283488140171321349?s=19
I'm a disabled Native person and a publicly visible radical organizer and dissident journalist, and I have called out Trump's fascism from jump. I read history and I know what happens to people like me in this kind of fascist progression. Some of you should learn more about that.
