There are things that Stadia could& #39;ve done to make this last Connect the best showing for the platform they could. They missed the mark, and there is no way to spin or make excuses for it. But what I will attempt to do is talk about what could& #39;ve been for this Connect.
1. Made it an hour or more. This was their chance on a big stage with the world watching, and they gave what equates to an 18 minute community blog post update. This was not the best strategy. It made them look amateur, and not like the big company that they are.
2. Showed off the first party studios, and their plans to build more. And their data centers and talk about why they can give you the best gaming experience in the cloud with little to no noticeable latency.
3. Led off with a major title announcement and trailer to get people excited. Even if the game was already announced, or coming down the line, you want to have people watching, and starting off with a big title would keep eyes glued.
4. Announce new partnerships and games with big studios. This is important. When you& #39;re on an E3 like stage, this is the moment you show your hand. It has always been like this, and will always be like that. Since there is no E3, SGF was the replacement.
5. Show more integration with YouTube. What they showed was good, but the messaging of "Click To Play" fell flat. If they had talked about their plans for direct streaming to YT, that would& #39;ve hit home. But they didn& #39;t.
6. Those other two EA games. Where were they? Capcom? Absent as well. SNK? Nothing. Games like Street Fighter and Resident Evil would& #39;ve made a huge impact and gave a compelling reason to get onboard with Stadia. None of these games were present.
7. Having the big names at the company speak on their behalf. No disrespect to the presenters, but who were these people? Where was Phil Harrison, Jade Raymond, Shannon Studstill, the head guy at Typhoon Studios? In fact, where WAS Typhoon Studios?
8. Laid the ground work for the path going forward. This would& #39;ve be able to show that they are in it for the long haul, and it is safe to get in on Stadia, and be there as it grows. They just said wait for the next Connect, when THIS was supposed to be the NEXT Connect.
9. Finally, they should& #39;ve ended the show with a major announcement of a big title that was never mentioned to be coming to Stadia, and no I& #39;m NOT talking about Fortnite. Just saying ANY big title. This is the stage to drop the mic, and they didn& #39;t even pick it up.
This is my take on what would be a better show for them. Microsoft is having their event, and theirs will be an hour long. They will have major games to show off, and they will have the time to really talk about it. 18 minutes was NOT enough time to do anything.
