We have published an extremely detailed map of where people are wearing masks in the United States. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/07/17/upshot/coronavirus-face-mask-map.html @jshkatz @KevinQ
First of all, a fact that may surprise you given some of the public debate about masks: Mask use is pretty high in the United States, overall. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/07/17/upshot/coronavirus-face-mask-map.html
But there is definitely room for improvement, according to public health experts, who say mask wearing is an important strategy for slowing the spread for coronavirus.

Our map shows there is more room for improvement in some places than others.
You can see broad regional patterns--mask use is high throughout the Northeast, where Covid hit hard early.

But there are also interesting local patterns. Look at the D.C.-metro area. (Or, you can zoom in on any area you want.) https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/07/17/upshot/coronavirus-face-mask-map.html
Thanks so much to @DynataGlobal for putting this question out in the field!
I talked to @DeeMargo, the mayor of El Paso, about why mask use is so high there. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/07/17/upshot/coronavirus-face-mask-map.html
