To celebrate 400 followers (thank you everyone, 😘), here is a thread of Benedict as the colours of Benedict's reagent - the biochemical test for reducing sugars.

I am a biologist after all. Enjoy!
So blue Benedict's = no reducing sugars present! Try hydrolysing the solution and try again.
Green Benedict's = some reducing sugars present.
Orange/Yellow Benedict's - quite a lot of reducing sugar present.
Brick red Benedict's - loads of reducing sugars present! Tonnes off the stuff.
Ok, so I love biochemical tests. Let's do some more.

How about the Biuret test for protein? A lovely purple colour.
Iodine test for starch? Well, it's sort of orangey-brown when it's a negative result.
And black for a positive result.
One last one - the emulsion test for lipids. It goes white if fats are present.
And there you go! Science and Benedict all in one. Imagine what quality content you'll get when I hit 500!
