#primarycarechat 1/6 Because I think it’s so important, I just want to expand on the concept of caring for whole families, and not the person w/disability in isolation. (Thanks for indulging me!)
/6 As primary care folks, we’re in a position to care for the entire family unit. The person w/disability may be the nexus. Or we may be caring for people who get to welcome a person w/disability into their family. Either way on the continuum, we’re a resource.
/6 Consider the parents/grandparents. Lots of emotional needs to be addressed. And how often I’ve heard “Doc, ya gotta keep me healthy because Corrie/Eddie/Katie need me!” And also end of life and guardianship issues as parents age or otherwise develop medical issues.
/6 Consider the siblings. May be genetic issues to consider for certain conditions. And the emotional impact of having a sib with a disability.
/6 Great opportunity for us to have positive impact across families!
/6 And finally...SO GREAT TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING BESIDES COVID 😄.
