Those who are obese have an increased risk for:

+Diabetes
+Joint problems
+High blood pressure
+Heart disease
+Certain cancers
+Gut disorders
+Breathing difficulties
+An overall decreased quality of life
Some of the psychological and mental health risks associated with obesity include:

+Increased risk for depression
+Negative self-image
+Social isolation
+Discrimination
The health risks involved include a shorter lifespan and compared to those of a healthy body weight, obese people are 50-100% more likely to die prematurely.

When someone is a smoker, it entails a lot of negative health effects, so we in turn attempt to get them to quit…
Why can’t we do the same with the obesity issue?
Being overweight isn’t healthy, and we shouldn’t make it “OK”, because the adverse health effects are deadly!

How can we help to prevent and fix this issue?
1. Begin educating more about the importance of a nutritious diet and how to avoid over-eating.

Re-establish nutrition and diet education throughout high schools and elementary schools.

An educated youth will help turn the arrow in a better direction.
2. Hollywood needs to stop promoting bull-shit diets.

Ever heard of the “Tapeworm diet”? (I’ll let you guess if you haven’t…)

Or the “Sleeping beauty diet” (Literally sleeping all day so you don’t eat… who works right?)

Our diet needs longevity and sustainability to work.
3. Educate as many people as possible on how to properly calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) basically the avg calories burned in a day.

Have everyone learn how to estimate or track calories if possible at least for a month or two, to get a feel for how it's done.
4. Constant advertisements from governments and those in power on the importance of physical activity.

In Kinesiology, we simply learned that exercise is the best medicine.

It solves a plethora of physical and psychological ailments and people aren’t talking about it enough.
I created this thread to spread awareness on an issue that doesn’t have nearly enough attention as it should have.

I believe there is no simple solution because its not a simple issue, it’s a systemic issue with multiple factors.
By targeting each factor we may be able to improve and help those who are obese in a more efficient manner.

If you have any suggestions on what else, we as a society can do to help improve the obesity crisis let me know below!
