We're all producing and consuming more digital content than ever, but how often do you consider accessibility when you're watching or creating?

1/10
Subtitles, audio description, alt-text, BSL interpretation, transcripts, etc. all make digital content accessible to so many more people.

For the d/Deaf and hard of hearing, subtitles and captions are absolutely essential.

2/10
By not subtitling content, you're taking a quick content and actively excluding people from accessing your content. At its best, it's uninformed content creation. At it's worst, it's lazy content creation and it's ableist.

3/10
Subtitles benefit everyone. According to @Stagetext, 80% of subtitle users use them for reasons other than hearing loss.

For marketers, subtitle files can also benefit your SEO.

4/10
Adding alt-text to your images or audio description to your videos can make them much more accessible to those with visual impairments.

If you have an image without any alt-text then followers will miss out on all that information that's contained in the image.

Similarly, audio description will bring a performance to life. We don't go to the theatre simply to listen to the script; we also take in the set and the movement on stage.

A digital performance without audio descriptions means these things, and more, are missing.

So why this thread now? Well, I think that it's important to remember that we need to all do our best to make our digital content as accessible and inclusive as it can be.

8/10
That goes for creators & consumers. If you're creating, make sure you set budget aside & speak to @Stagetext and @VocalEyesAD.

If you're a consumer, demand better of the creators. Ask why a piece of work is not accessible. This is hardly ever done and could be so powerful.

9/10
Oh and lastly, I say set budget aside but there are also ways to make your content more accessible that are entirely free. Both @Stagetext and @VocalEyesAD point to these on their websites.
