I love when people accidentally stumble across the whole point of a book and then frame it as a 'controversial literary opinion'

these threads always have the same problem, which is that people assume the texts they were made to read in school were chosen because they're objectively good books rather than because they're easily digestible in short amounts of time and exemplify some core literary techniques
I promise you your teacher did not think the great gatsby was the greatest book ever written, but they did need to teach you about extended metaphors and unreliable narration and TGG is crucially very short and printed in a very large font
