PM's Road Map Chapter 2 press conference in a nutshell:
* more powers for councils to close down premises and transport for lightning lockdowns
* new target of 500k tests a day bu end of October
* extra £3bn for NHS for the winter crisis
* a new timetable for further unlock (1)
New timetable for further unlock, from August 1:
* work from home advice to replaced by employers' discretion, and transport rules relaxed
* bowling alleys, skating rinks, casinos, beauticians to reopen
* indoor performances to restart, but night-clubs to stay closed (2)
And from October, aspirations set:
* sports stadiums to reopen
* conference events to restart
* an ambition to return to total normality from November, "possibly in time for Christmas".
...but PM accepts some may say this is over ambitious (3)
PM describes it as “a plan where we hope for the best and prepare for the worst”. Stresses all of it is “conditional on how far we have beaten the virus”. He points to big second spikes in other countries as an example of what will happen “if the guidance isn’t followed” (4)
