"We were denied opportunities on the cricket fields. I was picked for the biggest tour to India. If you ask some players, they say they got 600k, I only got 9k in the 6 weeks I was there, which was 3k for each game I didn't play. I was picked for the T20 series and didn't play"
"Now coming back home, we get bonuses from the South African Cricketers Association (SACA) three times a year. Those bonuses depend on the number of games you've played. So I lost out on that too cos I wasn't playing at home, because I was on tour with the Proteas"
"So I was missing out on money while I was on tour cos I didn't play in any of the matches. I was also missing out on money at home cos I was away. That's why I used to say to my brother, I was losing money when I was with the Proteas"
"My first game for the Proteas was against Bangladesh. I was Man of the Match after taking 3/16. The next series was against NZ, I didn't play the first game, after being MOM. I played the 2nd game, took 1 wicket, we lost. The next tour was to India, I didn't play at all"
"This hurt, it hurt me deeply. I came back and I was probably unbearable to work with, I had an attitude and was probably hard to manage. But it was the scars, they cut me deep. It hurts that you're on tour with a National Team for 6-8 weeks, but you don't play"
"I'm grateful I had a Coach like @geoffreytoyana who understood that I was rusty when I came back. He said I can bowl as many overs, even if I go for 2/100. I had a captain like @AlviroPetersen who really backed me, even though emotionally I was not in the right state"
"After this was the 2016 World Cup. I didn't understand why I wasn't picked cos my strike rate was 9.00. I had taken 4 wickets in two matches for the Proteas. In one of those 2 games, I was MOM"
"Then in 2017 after that World Cup, I was told I've been picked to go on a spinners camp in India. I was like, no, I'm not going to do that. I'd rather go back to the Caribbean where I'd been playing for 3 years. I actually played for St Lucia (a country) before I played for SA"
"Darren Sammy took me to play for St Lucia. He said Eddie I'm putting you on the draft. But I didn't make the cut. Then Shakib Al Hasan pulled out and Sammy brought me back and for the same amount they were paying for Shakib. I won a few matches for them in 2016"
"I went back in 2017 and Sammy said, Eddie I think you can get citizenship in St Lucia if you own property. I'll give you one million to buy and you could play for the West Indies cos we need spinners. But I was patriotic and was still hoping to play for South Africa"
"Sammy and the Coach Stuart Williams couldn't understand why I wasn't playing for the Proteas but in South Africa they kept on saying we don't have spinners. So they said rather come play this side, but I refused that offer because I wanted to play for my National Team"
"I remember when I came back to SA,I felt I really wanted to prove myself.I played against the Knights with a sore shoulder. The physio said Eddie come out,I said no.I didn't even celebrate my 4 wickets that day because I was still hurt. But I don't think that's good anger to have"
"In 2018 I went to the Knights, Nicky Boje treated me so well. We had such a good relationship. But when hs left, things went downhill there. I also realized i still had scars and anger. But in the past 6 months, I went to speak to someone and they said Eddie you need to heal"
"Last season at the Knights it was worse for me. As a spinner I'd be brought on in the 17th over of a T20 match. There's a game I played against the Cobras. I bowled 10 overs in four spells.I was being wasted.I even asked the Knights to release me if they won't use me accordingly"
"I have now forgiven. I've moved on, I still love cricket. I play for fun. But the scars are still there, they don't go away. Being picked for the National Team and not play. I won't lie, it hurts. I had to see a psychologist to help deal with that" - @eddieleie @SAfmRadio
