Environmental Impact Assessment:-
Environamentalists must read
EIA or Environmental Impact assessment is the process of study of the effects of an industrial and infrastructural project on the environment.
Falls under Environment protection act,1986
EPA is practised in over 100 countries
And India notified its EIA in 1994
It Covers project..
such as coal mining, mining of other minerals, infrastructure development, thermal power, nuclear power, hydropower, real estate and other industrial projects
It doesn't allow activities/projects to go ahead without taking into account the effects on the Environment
Compares the various alternatives and tries to find the best solution for the best of both worlds(industrial and environmental)

The new draft of EIA,known as EIA draft 2020 has been proposed.
It is problematic in the following ways:-
•Allows post-facto clearance i.e.Any project
can continue even without Environmental clearances
•Excludes some projects from Environmental assessment Viz any project that the Govt terms as 'strategic',inland waterways and national highways are excluded too
•Construction projects upto 1,50000 m² are exempted from following
EIA norms
•EIA violations cannot be reported by citizens, only be govt representatives
•Any project is given a time of 30 days of public consultation, but the proposed draft cuts it down to 20 days

The draft was tried to be passed hurriedly in May lockdown period without making
much noise until High Court interfered and increased the time of consultation from public
to 11th August

GOVT doesnt care about the environment at all,all it cares about are the corporates
