On the one hand, the idea of a future without humour is almost unbearably bleak. On the other, no one would be on Twitter. So swings and roundabouts
This is "I Want to Believe: Posadism, UFOs and Apocalypse Communism" by A.M. Gittlitz. Only just started but it's very accessible and well-written
Gittlitz argues that Posadism - a fringe branch of Trotskyism most famous for its belief that any advanced extraterrestrial life would by be communist - has a lot to say about the current cultural embrace of the "paranormal" (ie Storm Area 51) in light of capitalist realism
Maybe the most interesting thread is the idea that both ufology and revolutionary feeling both rely on a wholehearted desire for and unwavering belief in the ridiculous and the impossible - hence the use of Fox Mulder's "I want to believe"
