This whole UK response to COVID has been linked to privilege and 100% is still just the herd immunity idea without labelling it that. Mandatory to wear a mask now in shops but no supply of them to the general public. There’s been no thought to those who may not be able to afford
Them. Esp those who may be single parents for eg who may not have anyone to look after their kids so they all have to do the food shop. The govt should be able to supply at least one mask per household to help. “Shop from home” except that means you will have to likely do a “big”
Food shop in order to make the most of that precious delivery slot you’ve got. Again, not feasible for many who have a low income. My mam as a care key worker is a prime example of this. “Lockdown” that’s lasted months whilst other countries had it for weeks and managed to get
some sort of handle on the virus. It’s lasted months yet people who live in small flats with no outdoor space etc are shamed by everyone for not staying indoors. I currently live in a house with multiple rooms and a garden. Had this happened a few years ago, I would have been in
A shared studio flat that had one window for fresh air and even with that it used to get over 30 degrees in there in summer. “You can work from home” which, rightfully, lots of people have however some places aren’t checking to see if that inidividual has the bare basics needed
to complete work tasks AT home. Just assuming people have access to the internet, suitable IT, suitable and comfortable working space, all just reeks of privilege. People applying for universal credit being told to wait over a month to receive anything. Parents being given less
Money to feed their children for the week than a restaurant discount deal for an individual for ONE meal out. Small businesses closing because they got no support and instead of the country going into full ACTUAL lockdown for a few weeks to minimise impact to the economy
In the long term, we’re now told to go out and support big corporations who are having to close multiple restaurants, stores etc meaning a loss of thousands of jobs nationwide again - often those who are on the lower end of the pay scale.
Tell me again how you’re still voting conservative. Tell me again how this is “saving the economy”. Tell me again how Boris is “dealing with it pretty well considering”
And before anyone points it out aye, I’ve been very vocal about folx not staying the fuck home to help. Surely by now y’all know I’m talking about those who can comfortably stay at home. Those who were doing daft shit like going clothes shopping because they were “bored”
Are absolutely not helping the situation. But overall, this has been a total disregard for so many people who simply don’t have the £££ to survive in the govts Tory world.
