I'll be covering the BIPOC Liberation Collective protest tonight in Eugene for @DailyEmerald. Our weekly roundup of the past weeks protest will be coming out tomorrow at noon, but follow this thread for updates. #EugeneProtests
There are one or two protesters waving at the people incarcerated on the Lane County Jail and several of the folks inside appear to be propped up on the window ledges inside watching the crowd.
Maybe about 75 people here right now.

The first speaker is going over protocol and outlining the route. The organizers have changed the route to adapt to the police presence and for the sake of time.
The protest is in solidarity with people incarcerated in the jail, who are hunger striking for better conditions in the jail. The hunger strike has been going for 25 days.
The hunger strikers are demanding the following:
1. Adequate measures for COVID-19
2. Release of pre-trial detainees
3. Right to a speedy trial
4. Raeinstatement of behind glass religious services and visiting.
Apparently one striker broke their strike today after guards began to wear masks and cleanings began to take place more regularly, in accordance with the first demand.

The current speaker is from @eughungerstrike
The procession is starting now. The group plans to march back and forth along the street four times in silence, but with speakers between some of the laps.
Marching counter traffic on 6th
Though this is a silent march, one motorist honked in support and a few people whooped back
Just peeled away from the protest to see what appeared to be the police stagibg area. I dont know exactly what constitutes riot gear, but the ~10 cops I could see were all wearing helmets and some amount of pads.
After two laps around the block in front of the jail. The marchers have stopped in front of the jail. A speaker is recoting poetry.
At the top of this thread I said i was covering the BLC protest, but this ailent procession isn't part of that as far as I can tell. It appears to be a Eugene Mutual Aid march and the BLC protest is a noise demonstration at 11
Back at the jail again. More folks waving and flashing lights.
