An actual serious thread on why I like ging as a character:
1. I beleive ging to some extent knew him and gon would be similar enough in nature that he would enjoy the thrill/ the “little stops” he found when trying to find his dad. Which he said on the tree!
Explanation: he made sure gon was with family while he was making a game with people he gathered for the purpose of training gon. They grew up on the same boring island & In a way I feel ging is relecting on the things HE wouldve wanted as a little kid & giving it to gon.
2. Gings “bad qualities” such as being selfish, not thinking of others feelings, & being obsessively invested in goals are all qualities gon has. not saying they are justifiable. Im saying togashi did a GOOD ASS job making gon similar to his dad to the point we could notice.
explanation: ging & gon both have very ambiguous and questionable morality. We got to see this in gon in almost every arc. His stubbornness almost getting him killed in the exam, his selfishness destroying Killuas hands, putting himself and others in danger for revenge and ect.
so many times it literally scares the shit out of an ASSASSIN (killua). Gon often neglected killua to put his goals before his friends feelings thoughts and safety just like ging did to gon. Ging left his family and left gon, he hurt those he loves just as gon did.
3. It can be tricky having a built up tention with characters like ging. when finally revealed they often don’t live up to the huge ass expectation created. Ging broke this fucking stereotype into pieces. He’s NOTHING we expected. His awkward demeanor is so fucking fun to watch.
Explanation: what did you honestly think ging would be like? Bc I fs as fuck didn’t think he’d be an awkward, shy, shit starter disliked by his peers. watching THAT instead of making him just a stereotypical “I’m proud of you son” moment at the end of the show was fucking amazing
4. Hes vital to the way togashi does story telling. It’s imperative to discuss ging when talking about the ways in which togashi makes a conversation on good and evil and what those words even really mean in actuality.
Explanation: Every characters personality exhibited both qualities of good and bad. Ex) Killuas a murderer yet lovable asf. Ging is the bad qualities of gon manifesting into a person. Ging is a mysterious figure we can’t stand for leaving gon but can’t stand not knowing more ab.
