I’ve been seeing a lot of people say that Marvin Bagley is trash lately, however I think there are a lot of positives to his game. Here are some examples of him showing what he can do
While Marvin isn’t a plus 3pt shooter, he can be capable, especially when he’s left open. It’s a good job by him not to shy away from this shot. If ur left open, u must shoot in the modern NBA and he did so. In the future he’ll need to learn to pump fake and drive to the hoop tho
Marvin shows how smart he is here. He sees the lane’s packed, and he notices that Giles is already in the paint, making Marv’s presence there redundant and likely to the detriment of his driving PG. Instead, he cuts back, giving his guard somewhere to dump the ball off
This is Bagley at his best. One of the best things that he does is he keeps playing no matter the situation. He easily could’ve slowed down and allowed Phoenix’s defense to set, but instead he keeps running to the basket and finishes extremely easily
Here he shows that he can finish with his right hand. This is fantastic post work as well. He sees that he’s stronger and bigger than Siakam and uses his spin move to create enough space in order to put up the right-handed hook shot
This is beautiful. He’s already established his spin move and other post moves so that Toronto had to respect them. Cos of this, he’s being given the mid-range jumper and he knocks it down confidently. This was defo the right decision cos the D were daring him to make the shot
His inbound pass is garbage, however he quickly realises it’s gonna be intercepted and he hunkers down for some D. He waits far enough back to prevent any type of overplaying on one side or another, and this patience allows him the opportunity to block the shot, which he does
He displays his basketball IQ here. He notices that he needs to rotate to the perimeter to guard Tyler. Altho he could be more decisive, he’s athletic and long enough to get his fingertips on the shot, causing Johnson to miss
Marvin does a great job on this play. He sags off Bender enough to provide some help defense on Booker. As a result, he strips the ball from Booker as he’s about to go up for the shot, leading to a turnover. This shows very good situational awareness
