So @shandro wants to fight dirty with doctors. Boy, do I have some dirt for you! I work with doctors every day. The academic medicine community, to be more specific. Here are just a few of their dirty little secrets:

1/
1. They’re up all night! I regularly get emails from doctors at 2 am. After a day in the OR or 48 hours of call they want to take care of their responsibilities to their students and colleagues so instead of turning in, they turn on their computers and start on the next task.
2/
2. They never really go on vacation! I have yet to meet a physician who did not take meetings, work calls, or email while “on vacation” with their family.

3/
3. They are cryers! I’ve seen them cry when you force their vulnerable patients onto biosimilars. Or when confronted with the truth about obstacles faced by BIPOC students in medicine, they will cry tears of frustration trying to find a solution.

4/
4. They care about people who aren’t even their patients! If they see a stranger looking peaked, they’ll insist on walking that person over to the ER. They’ll listen patiently to every non-physician colleague’s boring rash story just to (get this!) be nice.

5/
5. The docs are nonstop! New research idea? New course? New technique? The fact that they have 100 other things on their plate won’t stop them. They just can’t say no!

That’s all you get for now. I know a lot of teachers too... check back for some of their dirty secrets.
