okay. not to be an english major on main, but reading critically helps you understand why narratives work, and thus helps you enjoy those narratives more.

like. i, personally, enjoy books more when i can unpack why i think they work. and so i am really not vibing with the hot take "let people enjoy things" being used to take down "read books critically". those go together.

okay in general i think the discourse is just going too far right now but also. when you critique problematic content that's reading critically. that's why it's necessary to do so. you're not required to read critically every day but reading critically is still good. yeah
