A few observations:
If these numbers are to be trusted, EXTRACTION would have made, when transposing those numbers to a $9.16 movie ticket (the national average), $906,840,000. That's one of the 50 biggest movies of all time.
But now is when we consider that many would have not seen EXTRACTION in theaters. It may have been a decent success, but a $900 million movie? No way.
This illustrates a Covid-bound audience's thirst for novelty, of course, but also that the kinds of films we flock to at home differs from theatrical films.

TV movies, despite bearing no difference from theatrical movies, are treated differently.
This is something that advocates for theatrical experiences have been dating for many years, of course. Audiences assign different attention to TV movies and assign an indefinable sort of value on them.
Even as the distinction between films that were originally or intended to be theatrical and films that go straight to streaming grows ever more faint, audiences still consume films differently at home than they would in public.
This may seem obvious to most people, but it bears saying aloud. When streaming overtakes theaters as it very well may someday, the movies themselves will also, ineffably asthetically alter and evolve into... EXTRACTION? I guess we'll see.
