#PrescottAZ in news for wrong reasons. @Prescottcollege’s recent hiring of @OsopePatrisse to run a program for community art and activism brought out death threats. Patrisse is a #BlackLivesMatter activist that teaches the ‘tool of art and how it can be used for making change’ /1
Local woman issues online notice "This is the WRONG PERSON for a COLLEGE IN PRESCOTT SEND HER BACK TO CALIFORNIA." + comments “We need to make her quit. Her kind are not welcome here.” and “Get the rope and everyone involved gets it too. the war is on our doorstep fight now” /2
Another post suggested the Oathkeepers discuss how to reverse the college's decision at a meeting including a scheduled presentation by Yavapai Supervisor candidate Harry Oberg.
+ Prescott high school student Harper Snyder threatened gay and transgender students. Confederate flags were prominent in an impromptu parade on July 4. /5 https://twitter.com/nizhonimomma/status/1282761536793006080?s=20
Prescott can #BeBest when it celebrates everyone in #EveryobodysHomeTown. During “Tsunami on the Square” Prescott celebrated different cultures and people. This is more powerful than minimums of tolerance and acceptance. We need to be known for this, not petty acts of hatred /7
The irony that Patrisse Cullors’ @PrescottCollege’s online MA program is run out of LA underscores more than the ignorant reaction of hateful fearmongers. @PresTweets Prescott and @PrescottCollege should cultivate the power of socially engaged art and culture IN Prescott. /8
Why no MA program IN Prescott @Prescottcollege teaching ‘tool of art and how it can be used for making change’? /9
Why no City of Prescott @PresTweets support for festivals like Tsunami on the Square that celebrated diverse cultures and their expressions? Culture is the ounce of prevention that is worth a pound (or a ton) of cure. /10
There are civic leaders in #PrescottAZ who understand this. Barry Barbe at El Gato Azul consistently supports culture and diversity. Tsunami on the Square would not have been possible without John Lutes @LutesYCbos who is running against Oberg for County Supervisor /11
John Lutes was also a driving force behind the @IndivisPrescott #NeighborhoodSummitForEquity, which provided workshops to constructively address issues of race and equity in our community. We need leaders like this. http://VoteJohnLutes.com  /xx
