i realized that i was reading so much my sophomore/junior of college (2016-2017) and suddenly i stopped and i couldn’t remember why. then i remembered it was cause i sold my labor to that wretched institution and had no time for personal growth or reflection 🤢
advice for anyone currently in school who thinks they want to be a “student leader,” which is just the professionalization and grooming of docile “high-achieving” students: don’t do it.
especially in these times, the only relationship you, as a student, should have to your university is an antagonistic one
i talk about this a lot on here but universities are VIOLENT. and i mean that in a very material sense. even black admins are VIOLENT and while they’re relating to you about how they have a black son, they will also turn into (and call the) cops in an instant,
the moment you step out of line. this was just on my mind today bc ive been reflecting a lot of what type of student, academic, and PERSON i want to be and develop into over these next 5-7 years and beyond.
